i have a knack for taking really bad photos of my work.

i think it lends something to the paintings though, hiding some of the flaws

but sometimes the flaws help make it what it is.

who knows?

who cares?

i'll still paint it and take a bad photo anyway

after reading an interview with tim biskup in juxtapoz im back to knowing different people have their place in the world.

i remember that i dont have to do things in a certain order or a certain way.

often enough i decide that i dont care about the art world and ill just get on and do what i want to do, and have been doing.

then i fear that no one will see my paintings or drawings and i better do this or that or the world will implode!

but at the end of the day, i get no further or do better

and im comfortable with that

ive been painting for a long time and have never had success

so why does the fear of failure enter my mind?

its not like id be losing something

id still be painting and doing everything else i want to

everything i paint is about process, getting an idea to a finished product is more important than anything that could happen to that piece

but i dont want to document that process - its for me, you can see the result right there if i happen to upload a photo and you happen to look at it.

and dont worry about spending time trying to work out what the meaning is or what i meant.

generally the work speaks for itself, it either comments or gives instructions.

what you do with that is for you to decide but more than likely i meant them as words.

purely words that were going round my head until i decided i had to write them down to stop them.

This little blighter had gone missing for a couple of weeks.
It was eventually found under a mound of 'in progress' pieces.
Nice to have it back in the arsenal.

Its Cold Out

Lets start with some moaning about the weather...
Its far too cold for my liking, I could've ice skated to work for the last week.
Bring on LA in February!

On the brighter side, it has given me some nice evenings in front of the fire, painting.
The piece above is to encourage you to go inside and get warm if you have ventured out on a freezing evening. Find a fire and some whiskey to warm those bones.

Next, some complaining about the state of modern architecture in this city.
The majority of it is pretty shit.
There are exceptions, and for these I am thankful.
But there seems to be a school of thought that the surroundings of a new build should not be considered when designing it, they lack character, individuality and any sense of taste.

Who decides what gets built and what doesn't?
Seems to be someone who likes too many straight lines, too much glass and commissioning ugly buildings.
TEAR IT ALL DOWN!
Then build something interesting that may make people appreciate art and architecture.

below are the results of a very surreal day involving cops, break-ins, crazy rain and bleach.

I spent Monday working in the Golden Thread Gallery in Belfast

The wall painting is part of an exhibition of paint bombing called Splatter.

Quite simply, I paint the wall with a small workshop of teenagers and then Carlos, a spanish explosions expert paint bombs the room.

This is the gallery space before i started - its a big space to paint in a day.

Went for the easy route and used the explosion theme for the wall painting.

Above and below, The fire, smoke and pieces were painted by myself, with the teenagers working on the cloud of smoke in the middle, and one of them also decided to take over one end of one of the pieces.

Who am I to say no?

BOOM! Well it is an explosion!

Opening is this Saturday afternoon - get down and see Carlos do some crazy things with fireworks and paint!
